It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Robert Bates Hughes of Benton Harbor, Michigan, who passed away on April 18, 2024, at the age of 86, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Rev. Horace Hughes and Grace Hughes. He is survived by: his sister Helen Fry; his children, Robert L. (Laura), Christopher J. (Elizabeth) and Heather E. Howe (Terry); his grandchildren, Allison of Kyle, RJ, Aryana, Austin, Alden and Logan; his partner's daughters, Carole Reitz (Matt) and Kimberly Bennett; and also, Nathan, Alexandria, Ryan, Mason, Abigail and Nicholas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Michigan State University Track and Field Program, 550 S. Harrison Rd., East Lansing, MI 48823 and/or the First Presbyterian Church of Lansing.
