She is survived by: her husband Chester Tates; her son Brandon Lee Yancy Tates; her sisters, Dorothy McCoy, Mildred Nelson and Lois Evans; her grandson Brandon Lee Yancy Tates II; her caregiver Tawanna Taylor; her close friends, Rose Lee, Helen Mitchell and Dorothy Whitfield; her sister Ruby Lee Burton; her nephews, Walter Nelson Jr., Robert Earl Hatten and Lamar Nelson; and her niece Mary Helen James.
