He is survived by: his wife Shelby Smith (Birchfield); his children, Diana Downey (Stanley) and David Smith (Tina); his stepchildren, Kim Dansfield (Dale), Ben Cox (Megan) and Bryan Cox (Marcy); his grandsons, Brian Sheridan and Bradley Sheridan (Diana); his siblings, Erline Wilson (late Jack), Lena Bales (William), Jack Smith (Beverly), Edward Smith and Kelly Smith; and his brother-in-law Gary Birchfield. He is also survived by several great grandchildren.
