He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Donnelly and Jane Donnelly (Taber); and his brother-in-law Dave Haarer. He is survived by: his daughters, Amanda Brown (Edmund) of Dayton and Alisha Donnelly of Bay City; his close friend Virginia Dall; his sisters, JoAnn Donnelly, Cynthia Donnelly, Mary Haarer, Lucy Peters (Gregg), Rose Yagiela (Tim) and Maureen Taylor (Louis); his nephews, Patrick Yagiela (Melissa), Ken Yagiela and Nicholas Taylor; and his close friends, Tom and Peg Belland.

He was a member of the NRA and most recently enjoyed competition shooting with the Glock Sport Shooting Foundation.
