Douglas Anthony Johnson Obituary
Douglas Anthony Johnson, known affectionately as Doug to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025, in his hometown of Essexville, Michigan, where he was born on June 22, 1948, to the late Bernard and Margaret (Belger) Johnson. A devoted husband, loving father, and doting grandfather, Doug shared 27 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Vicki Lynn Johnson. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. He was a proud father to his son, Keith Johnson, and a guiding light to his step-sons, Jon and Ryan Kaliszewski. His joy was multiplied with the arrival of his grandchildren, Kade and Jenna Johnson, who will miss their grandfather's warmth and wisdom.
For 30 years, Doug dedicated his professional life to General Motors, where he worked as a Furnace Operator at Plant 2. His commitment to his work was matched only by his dedication to his faith. A born-again Christian, Doug was baptized with the Holy Spirit and lived his life with the assurance that he would one day join his Savior Jesus Christ and God the Father in heaven.
Doug's interests and hobbies were as diverse as they were passionate. A long-standing member of the Bay Area Amateur Radio Club, he was known by his call sign, KE8RNE, and was fondly referred to as the "Illustrious Net Controller" by his fellow radio enthusiasts. His love for open-source computer systems, fixing motors, and working on electronics earned him the titles "Motor Head" and "Mr. Fix It!" among friends and family. Doug's enthusiasm for fireworks earned him the moniker of a true "Fireworks Aficionado.".
An avid motorcyclist, Doug not only enjoyed riding his Harley but also showcased his craftsmanship by building a chopper himself. His adventurous spirit extended to the racetrack, where he drag-raced motorcycles, combining his love for speed and precision. Aviation was another of Doug's passions. As a pilot and an active member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, he took great pride in building airplanes with his fellow members and served diligently as their secretary.
As we bid farewell to Douglas Anthony Johnson, A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:30 pm at New Beginnings, 252 N Jackson, Bay City, MI, with Pastor Kelly Isbell presiding.
