As we bid farewell to this cherished soul, solace is taken in the memories held dear — the laughter shared, the wisdom imparted, the moments of quiet reflection in their presence. Though Richard may no longer walk among us, his spirit lives on in the echoes of his kindness, the warmth of his embrace, and the light of his enduring love.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Wassenaar and Sarah Wassenaar (Thurston); his brother Patrick; and his son James. He is survived by: his siblings, Sandra Phillips of Battle Creek, Annie Warner of Kalamazoo and Mike "Frank" Wassenaar of Battle Creek; and his children, Pamela Wassenaar of Battle Creek, Elizabeth Wassenaar of Battle Creek, Russell Wassenaar of Summerville and Thomas Wassenaar of Casnovia, Michigan. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 21st 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service (375 W Dickman Rd, Battle Creek, MI 49037). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 21st 2025 at 1:30 PM at the Fort Custer National Cemetery (15501 W Dickman Rd, Augusta, MI 49012).
