He was predeceased by: his parents, William Gast and Amanda Gast (Ott); his former wife Annabelle Ross-Yuran; his sister Jane Strauss; and his sons-in-law, Timothy Lauver and Les Johnson.

He is survived by: his spouse Beverly Smith-Erwin; his children, Cynthia Lauver, Diana Brunke (Robert), Linda Fisher, Annabelle Johnson and Frank Yuran; and his brothers, Darrell Gast (Betty) and Bill Gast (Nancy). He is also survived by eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren.
