He was predeceased by: his parents, Lyle Hetfield and Grace Hetfield (Otte); his wife Caroline Marie Lick; his son-in-law Dennis Nitz; and his brother Duane Hetfield.
He is survived by: his children, Debra Nitz and David Hetfield; his grandchildren, Jason Greco, Ashley Nitz, Joseph Griffith and Matthew Griffith; his sisters, Pam Hall and Sandy Archie; and his close friend Popeye. He is also survived by six great grandchildren.
