He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Richard Melvin and Maxine Melvin (Gourdie); his children, Dana Liceaga (John) of Shelbyville, Ind and Richard Brandon Melvin (Dawn) of Hartford; his granddaughters, Olivia, Mia and Ava Liceaga; his siblings, Lisa Buddemeier of Bangor and Timothy Melvin (Lynne) of Vicksburg, Mich.; his sisters-in-law, Brenda Melvin of Grand Rapids, Marilyn Thornburg of Kalamazoo and Emma Sefcik (Ron); his close friends, Jim, Kerrie Turner of Lawton and Tim Link; his brothers, Douglas and William Melvin; his nephew Steffen Melvin; and his nieces, Karrie Melvin and Lorri Melvin Dawes.
