He was predeceased by: his parents, Bob Hempel and Sally Hempel (Thorsdale); his siblings, Eileen, Thomas and Patrick; and his nieces, Tamara, Brittany and Sarah.
He is survived by: his children, John Hempel (Janelle) of Vicksburg and April Hempel of Kalamazoo; his grandson Michael Kessler of Vicksburg; and his siblings, Robert Hempel (Kathy) of Three Rivers, Jim Hempel (Jacquie) of Bend, OR, Dennis Hempel (Karen) of Mendon, Kevin Hempel of Phoenix, AZ, Jeanine Vogler (Steve) of Kentwood and Marty Hempel (Cassondra) of White Pigeon. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
