Henry L. Sylvester Obituary
Henry L. Sylvester, a man known for his spirited nature, handy skills, and delightful sense of humor, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025, at the age of 89 in Auburn, Michigan. Born on September 25, 1935, in Bay County, Michigan, to the late Elmer and Estella (Revord) Sylvester. Henry's life was a testament to the joy of simple pleasures and the value of family and hard work.
After a fulfilling career at General Motors from which he retired, Henry dedicated his time to the activities he loved most. A true outdoorsman, he could often be found hunting or fishing, embracing the tranquility of nature. His hands were rarely idle, as he took pleasure in building and could fix almost anything—a skill that was greatly appreciated by friends and family alike. Henry's love for golfing was matched only by his passion for cooking on the grill, where he created many memorable meals for those he cherished. Not one to shy away from a little excitement, he also enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino, where his infectious laughter was a bright spot at any table.
Henry's life was enriched by his large and loving family. He was a devoted father to his children, Michelle Nyquist, Brian (Sheila) Hoffman, and Michelle (Joel) Leavens. His legacy continues through his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will carry forward the lessons and laughter he shared. Henry was a beloved brother to Marilyn Dumont, June Meyer, Delores Wojda, Diane Bodrie, Gerald and Daniel Sylvester. His siblings will hold dear the memories of their times together.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith (Luptowski) Sylvester, who was his partner in life's journey and with whom he shared a love that was evident to all who knew them. His children Scott Sylvester and Brad Hoffman, as well as his brothers Bernard, Donald, Thomas, and Lyle, also preceded him in death. They have now welcomed Henry into eternal rest, where they can once again share in the camaraderie that characterized their relationships on earth.
Henry's presence in the lives of those he touched was a gift. His ability to find humor in everyday situations brightened the days of many, and his stories will be retold with smiles and fondness. His practical wisdom, imparted through both his words and his actions, has left an indelible mark on his family and friends.
As we bid farewell to Henry L. Sylvester, we celebrate a life well-lived. We remember a man who embraced the world with open arms and who taught us the importance of enjoying life's journey. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him, and his legacy will continue to inspire us all.
