He was predeceased by: his parents, Holyer Baker and Hattie Baker (Dodson). He is survived by: his wife Bobbie; his children, James Baker Jr. (Janet), Madelyn Cosens (Jim) and Alison Quitmeyer (Fritz); and his sister Judy Myers. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren.
