He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Waltanen and Ethel Rintala; his son Steven Waltanen; his siblings, Roy Waltanen, Melvin Waltanen and Jane Lipuma; his grandchildren, Katie Waltanen and John Phillips; and his nieces, Renee Waltanen and Peggy Waltanen.
He is survived by: his wife Wanda Cook; his children, Bradley Waltanen (Shannon Mattson) of Painesdale, Allen J. Waltanen of Atlantic Mine and Lonita R. VanDrees (Rick) of Shawano, Wisconsin; his sister Carol Tudor (Al) of Wisconsin; and his uncle Michael "Willie" Waltanen, Sr. of Toivola. He is also survived by grandchildren; great-grandchildren; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
