He was predeceased by: his parents, Olan Parry and Nora Marie Eckels (Kelsey); his sisters, Sandra Eckels, Kathryn Berry and Dorothy Maidens; and his close friend Kevin Dean.

He is survived by: his wife Pamela Eckels of Arcadia; his daughters, Dawn Sutton of Bear Lake and Stephanie Newsom (Al Gilbert) of Arcadia; his grandchildren, Cody Newsom (Shawna), Logan Sutton, Noah Sutton, Jake Newsom, Zoey Sutton, Abigail Newsom and Devin Newsom; his great grandchild Owen Wayne Newsom; his siblings, Robert Eckels (Sue), Richard Eckels, Margaret Marcum, Barbara Eckels Rennie, Susie McPherson and Carol Matthews (Rich); and his mother-in-law Eleanor M. Pilz. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
