He was predeceased by: his parents, Eldred Lentz and Fern Lentz (Campbell); and his sister Bonnie Merrill. He is survived by: his wife Laraine K. Johnston; his children, Craig (Sara) of Romeo and Renay Yennor (Brian) of Port Huron; his grandchildren, Megan, Nicholas and Jadyn; and his sisters, Carol Ann Wood of Applegate and Rita Kreiner of Applegate.

Memorials may be made to the Applegate United Methodist Church.
