Kimberly Garver lit a candle

“In loving memory of Richard Swartz, Dr Swartz cared for my mother for 25 years and became part of our family in the process. He was exceptionally caring, funny, authentic and brilliant. In the last year of her life he made several visits to her home with the wonderful dialysis team. He carried all of us through the last week of her life with such grace and compassion. I know that Mom and him are laughing together now. He will be forever Treasured and missed.”

Jean and Paul Hirsch lit a candle

“Richard Swartz is a man who cannot be replaced. His deep love for June and the rest of his family will live on in them. Likewise his friends, of which there are many. The dedication he brought to his patients will also be carried on through their families. This is a life that will not be forgotten. He was also a wonderful photographer as well as a poet. And laughter was always present. He will stay with us. We should stay with him. Sorrowfully, Jean and Paul Hirsch”

“Richard and I did projects together in high school, studied calculus together in undergrad, and shared a cadaver in Anatomy and were each others first partners in Physical Diagnosis in first year med. He married my high school classmate and world's sweetest person, June, and I loved them both. I was just telling Richard stories to my daughter who googled him and found the shocking news. My profound condolences and blessings to the family, in the shadow of Yom Kippur. A hero. Gary Weinman”

Andrew Twietmeyer wrote a sympathy message

“I am so saddened to learn of Richard's passing. I knew him primarily in my adolescence when I was Vaughn's Ann Arbor sidekick. He and June were boundlessly generous to me with their time and their home too many times to count. I remember Richard as a man of discipline, zeal, and activity who cherished his family, friends, and community. He was and remains one of my role models. Jasmine and I send you all our deepest condolences.”
