He was predeceased by: his parents, John Richard O'Meara and Karolyn Corbett O'Meara; and his son Corbett Edge O'Meara. He is survived by: his wife Julia Donovan Darlow; his children, Meghan O'Meara (Raymond Burks), John R. O'Meara II (Ann Mullen), Patrick O'Meara (Darren Gan), Gillian Darlow (Chris Jones) and Tighe O'Meara; his grandchildren, Grace, Corbett, Eaven O'Meara, Peter, Evan Jones, Jude and Lola O'Meara; his sisters, Kay Walper and Molly Sumnar; and his brother-in-law Ed Sumnar.
For several years, he supervised his firm's pro bono work, represented numerous criminal defendants who couldn't afford counsel, as well as the ACLU in a death penalty ballot question, and made contributions to a gerrymandering reversal case for Mississippi civil rights leader Aaron Henry.
