He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Petersen and Donna Petersen (Boag); his stepfather Henry Miller; his parents-in-law, Douglas and Viva Elrod; his sisters, Linda Petersen and Renna Caudle (William); his niece Colleen Caudle; his nephew Jeff Haynes; and his great-niece Isabelle Moustakas.
He is survived by: his wife Rebecca "Sue" Petersen; his children, Duane D. Petersen (Connie), Kimberly S. Petersen and Traci L. Wolfe (Jim); his grandchildren, Hannah L. Petersen, Kailee M. Petersen, Owen G. Wolfe, Claire N. Petersen and Neil H. Wolfe; his sisters, Karen Dieckmann (Jim), Judy Drago, Kathy Haynes (Mike) and Cyndie Walstra (Scott); his stepbrothers, Ken Miller (Mary Ellen), Dale Miller (Debbie) and Glen Miller (Diane); his brother-in-law Ron Elrod; and his close friends, Stan and Sandy Pruett. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
