He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Simi and Elsa Simi (Hakasari); his wife Janet Swanson; and his siblings, John Simi, Eino Simi, Carl Simi, Ester Lepisto, Bertha Collar and Dora Anttonen. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Contributions in his memory can be directed to the Bertha (Simi) Collar Scholarship Fund at Finlandia University, Hancock, Michigan that he established in her honor.
