Elaine Mandenberg Obituary
Elaine Irene Mandenberg, 96, of Alpena passed away Monday, May 17, 2021 at her home. Elaine Irene Blasius was born in Highland Park on November 3, 1924 to the late Edson and Inez (Findlater) Blasius. She graduated from Highland Park High School in 1942 and in 1946 from MSU with a degree in art education. On September 10, 1946, she married Robert D. Mandenberg of Okemos.
Together they moved to New Jersey where he was stationed and after his honorable discharge from the US Navy, returned to Michigan. In 1952, they moved to Alpena where she taught at Ella White, McPhee and the high school, until she "retired" to raise their children. Robert preceded her in death on January 2, 2004. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, former Elder, choir member for over 60 years, women's association leader, and volunteer for over 43 years at ARMC's gift shop, retiring on her 90th birthday.
Elaine was a member Alpena Community Chorus, the Arts Council and Law Wives. Surviving are four children, Lucinda Mandenberg, James (Debra) Mandenberg, Karen Cowell, Brian (fiancée Julie Seydel) Mandenberg; 8 grandchildren, Travis Mandenberg, Anastasia Mandenberg, Robert McDonald, Amanda McDonald, Keith (Jessica) McLennan, Mercedes Mandenberg, Melony Mandenberg and Madison Seydel.
Mrs. Mandenberg was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Blasius, Harold Blasius; and a sister, Lou Ellen Moore. Visitation will take place at the First Presbyterian Church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon with Rev. William Rayment officiating. Arrangements are being handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
Interment: Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
