He was predeceased by: his parents, James Essex and Roberta "Birtie" Essex (Trepanier); his brother Keith Essex; his nephew Joey Malek; and his great-niece Jillyan Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Beverly Young; his daughters, Mischelle King (Todd) and Sara Rodriguez (Miguel); his grandchildren, Morgan, Megan, Caleb, Christian and Genevieve; and his siblings, Linda Malek, Deb Tice (Tim) and Jim Essex. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
