He was predeceased by: his parents, Chester James and Laura Marie Richards (Berry); his brother Calvin Richards; his niece Janae Richards; and his great-nephew Damien Woodworth.

He is survived by: his mother-in-law Linda Sue Grover; his wife Linda Richards; his sons, Jeffery Richards (Barbara), Joseph Richards (Leann) and James Richards (Cassandra); his grandchildren, Nick Brauher, Jacob, Cassidy, Kyle, Kasey Kami (Samantha), Remington and Emma Richards; his great grandchildren, Karter, Hayden Richards, Landon, Logan and Aden Brauher; and his sister-in-law Linda K. Richards. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
