He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Ellis and Jessie Ellis; his wife Delores Karash; his son Thomas Ellis; and his siblings, Clyde, Robert, Harold and Viola.

He is survived by: his children, Richard Ellis (Ginny) and Linda Stroup (Clay); and his daughter-in-law Christine Ellis. He is also survived by five grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
