He was predeceased by: his parents, John Sr. Hoelsema and Joan Hoelsema; his sister Annette Hoelsema; and his brothers-in-law, Jim Anton and Jerry Koeman.
He is survived by: his wife Karen; his sons, Jason Hoelsema and Jeremy (Frances Hoelsema); his grandsons, Deacon Hoelsema and Asher Hoelsema; his siblings, Vicki (Ed Shattuck), Marianne Anton, Terry (RuthAnn Hoelsema), Joni (Lee Hiler) and Anne (Kris Brandt); and his siblings-in-law, Ruth Koeman, Paul, Jan Schilthuis, Gloria, Bill VanHaitsma, Nancy, Sal Padilla, Donna and Fred DeGraaf. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
