He was predeceased by: his parents, Philip Mooney and Mildred Mooney (Dorris); and his wife Geraldine Szul. He is survived by: his children, Peter Mooney Jr. (Margaret Beck), Monica Mooney, Daniel Mooney (Pamela), Therese Claypool (Donald), Marirose Hutcherson (Jared) and Philip Mooney (Maria); and his sister Barbara Brett. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild.
