He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard and Leona; and his brothers, Gary and Mark. He is survived by: his wife Alice; his children, Samantha Hallman-Wollborg (Joel), Adam (Holly) and Richard II; his grandchildren, Brandon, Connor, Olive and Parker; and his brother Daniel (Jenny Lee-Russell).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries, a charity whose mission he strongly believed in and supported.
