He is survived by: his sons, Philip Phelps and Aaron Phelps; his stepdaughter Deanna Grignani (Ben); his sister Peggy Smith; his nephews, Joe Herron and Todd Herron; his grandchildren, Britney Ridsdale, Jenessa Steck, Kirstie Wilson, Mason Grignani and Eli Grignani; and his great grandchildren, Maverick Corwin, Jameson Stillwagon and Waylon Stillwagon.
Walter donated to countless conservation organizations and was a supporter of his local 4-H.
