He was predeceased by : his mother Ellen Capatolia Goodrich; his brothers-in-law, Mark Kincaid and Daniel Barnes; and his grandparents, Carl Herwarth, Iva Herwarth, Frances Youmans and Jenny Goodrich Youmans.

He is survived by : his father Robert Louis Herwarth; his wife Deborah Herwarth; his children, James Herwarth, II and Kristy Hemminger (Bob); his grandchildren, Ashley Hemminger, Chelsea Hemminger and Chloe Hemminger; and his siblings, Roberta Barnes, Richard Herwarth (Rusty), Cynthia Kincaid-Colier (Ted), Robert Herwarth, II (Hope) and Brian Hewarth.
