He was predeceased by: his parents, Truman Hanel and Esther Hanel; his siblings, Helen Joyce Benedict, Patricia Hammond, Beverly LaFave and Dale Hanel; his grandsons, Brett Pigott and Landyn Hanel; and his close friend Shirley Sproule.
He is survived by: his former wife Alice Hanel (Brasseur); his siblings, Harold "Bud" Hanel, Carolyn Appleford and Trudy Reynolds (Gil); and his children, Jeff Hanel, Steve Hanel (Judy), Matt Hanel (Deb), Madalynn Thompson (Dave) and Julie Erway (Ken). He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
