He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Oakes and Dorothy Oakes (Mason); and his siblings, Russell, Robert Oakes, Shirley Bernard, Pauline Kittridge, Leatrice Orr and Frances Beaulieu.
He is survived by: his wife Louise "Dolly" Oakes; his children, Debra Marquis of Hartford, Diane Oakes of Westbrook, Dolores Tuttle of Wilton, David Oakes (Sue) of Dixfield, Donald Oakes (Teresa) of Livermore, Doreen Swain (Shepard) of New Vineyard and Daniel Oakes (Yuleide) of Farmington; and his siblings-in-law, Arlene Cornelio of Auburn, James Cornelio of Brunswick, Thomas Cornelio of Jay, Gloria Tardif (Richard) of Jay and Richard Beaulieu of Mercer. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest donations be made in Don's memory to the VFW Post 3335, 64 Jewell Street, Jay, Maine 04239, where Don frequently sang karaoke and met up with friends, or donations may be made to the Amedisys Foundation, 3854 American Way, Suite A, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70816, who provided Hospice Care.
