He was predeceased by: his wife Lily Faye Van Gilder; and his sister Sue Ellen Van Gilder. He is survived by: his sons, Robert Van Gilder (Diane) of Otisfield and James Van Gilder (Amy) of Pepperell, Massachusetts; his grandchildren, Jeni McLellan (Mike), Jillian Schilp, Caleb Van Gilder, William Schilp and Sydney Van Gilder; his great grandchild Lucas McLellan; and his brother Neil Van Gilder of Naperville, Illinois.
Memorials in his name may be made to the Hayleyville Methodist Cemetery 809 Steep Run Road, Millville, NJ 08332.
