He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Pettengill and Gladys Pettengill (Randall); his wives, Dorothy and Annette; his sons, Thomas Pettengill and John Pettengill; and his siblings, Clarence "Sonny" Pettengill, Herbert Pettengill, Ernest Pettengill, George "Butch" Pettengill, Elizabeth Williams, Permelia Ridley, Mildred Dyer and Susie Crystal.
He is survived by: his daughter Tammy Gibbons (Doug) of Fairfield; his grandchildren, Todd Gibbons of Fairfield, Laura Manchester (Curt) of South Paris, Alicia Dagneau of Arizona and Sarah Pettengill of Winthrop; his great grandchildren, Charlotte Manchester, Eleanor Turner, Jacie Dagneau and Emelia Pettengill; and his siblings, Alfred Pettengill and Dorothy Blake. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
