He was predeceased by: his parents, James Johnston and Erma Johnston (Gatcomb); his siblings, James Johnston and Mary Beth Amison; and his grandson Thomas Merchant.
He is survived by: his children, Jaimie Johnston (Stephanie Flood) of Sullivan, Michael Johnston (Kelly) of Gouldsboro and Kristy Johnston of Southwest Harbor; his grandchildren, Michael McGraw, Leah McGraw and Keagan Johnston; and his brother Peter Johnston (Dolores) of Hancock.
