He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter M. Sr. and Mary W. Costello (Moran); his former wife Lucille V. Costello; and his son John Costello. He is survived by: his children, Mary Costello of Westbrook, Kate (Chris Donahue) and Michael Costello; his wife Susan; his brother Hugh Costello of South Portland; and his grandchildren, Sean Costello, Michelle Costello, Matthew Costello, Andrew Donahue, Allison Heksch, Kirsten Sistare, Michael Costello, Stephen Costello and Ryan Costello. He is also survived by three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
