He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Gilbert and Ann Chartrand; his parents-in-law, Erwin, Harry and Frances Huff; and his brother-in-law Doug Nyman.

He is survived by: his wife Valerie Gilbert; his children, Heidi Huff (Zach) and Nicholas Gilbert (Julia); his grandchildren, Jadyn, Aleah and Hudson; his siblings, Gary Gilbert, Donna Wood (David), David Mauro (Sonja), Lynn Alix (Marcel), Vicky King (Michael) and Maryann Neal; and his stepsiblings, Jimmy Chartrand (Denise) and Sue Dynan (Dennis). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews.
