He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Jan Gilbert Stearns and Roger D. Smith; his wife Mindy Fitzgerald Smith; and his children, Debra Ricker (Jim) of Newport, David Smith of Waldoboro and Aaron Smith of St. Louis. He was also cherished by three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
