He was predeceased by: his parents, Frederick W. Atherton and Ruth E. Atherton (Wyman); and his brother Albert Atherton. He is survived by: his children, Steven F. Atherton, Jr. (Rebecca Johnson) of Franklin and Tracy Downing (Gregory) of Ellsworth; his grandchildren, Mason and Brooke Downing; his sister Cynthia Atherton of Dedham; the mother of his children Holly Tracy of Franklin; and his partner's son Caleb Richards. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
