He was predeceased by: his parents, Pearle Sprague and Edna Sprague (Billings); his wife Harriet; his siblings, Glen (Mary) and Lois Preble; and his great grandchild Samuel L. Hawkes, Jr..
He is survived by: his daughters, Katherine Clark, Lynda Baum (Joseph), Christine Donovan (Shaun) and Rosemary Hawkes (Donnie); and his grandchildren, Sara Rideout, Tracey Glinko, Keely Widdlecombe, Tucker Baum, Sam Hawkes, Kaylyn Keane and Buster Brown. He is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren; many caring nieces, nephews, and friends.
