He is survived by: his former wife Karen "Midge" Short (Keene); his daughter Later; his wife Doris Short; his daughters, Sherri Vallee (John Frey), Tracy Stevenson and Kelly Tremblay (Rich Tremblay); his stepsons, Eric St. Pierre (Carrie) and Kevin St. Pierre (Kim); his grandchildren, Brian Leighton (Molly), Courtney Vallee, Brett Vallee (Noelle), Dylan Levasseur, Beau Stevenson (Nicole), Brooke Stevenson, Devin McMahan (Eliza), Whitney McMahan (Branden), Mikaila Tiner (Erik), Mariah St. Pierre, Keenan St. Pierre and Arielle St. Pierre; his siblings, William Short, James Short, Michael Short and Cindy Short Cassidy (Jim); and his pets, Missy and Buxton. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
