He was predeceased by: his parents, Daniel Patrick Leonard and Rose Leonard (Marshall); and his siblings, Francis Joseph Leonard, Daniel Leonard, Mary Ferris (Leonard) and Catherine "Kay" Burke (Leonard).
He is survived by: his wife Grace Margaret Leonard (Smith); his sons, James R. Leonard, Jr. (Kristen Kravitz) of Topsham, ME, John M. Leonard of Melrose, MA and Andrew E. Leonard (Kathleen); his grandchildren, Collin (Makenzie Nichols), Genevieve, Elise, James and Emily; and his great grandchild Evelyn. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
