She was predeceased by: her parents, Elbert Stearns and Ruth Stearns (Rumery); her children, Fred Smith Jr., Peter Smith, Melanie Smith Adams and Christy Sue Smith; her son-in-law David Van Doren; and her siblings, Stanley Stearns, Richard Stearns and Laura Milliken.

She is survived by: her spouses, Fred W. Smith and Boyd Cooley; her children, Philip Smith (Margaret), Kevin Cooley, Russell Cooley (Valerie), Pamela Smith Van Doren, Patricia Smith, Barbara Flanders and Carolyn Lauginiger (John); her daughter-in-law Elizabeth Smith; and her friend Shirleyann Watts. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren.
