He was predeceased by: his parents, John Bates and Evelyn Bates (Poole); his wife Marilyn Hodgkins; his grandson Matthew Adams; and his siblings, Walter, Marion Blaisdell, Russell, Alfred and Bernard.
He is survived by: his daughters, Cheryl Adams (Jon) of Lisbon Falls and Laurie Davis (Ronald Jr.) of Moultonborough, NH.; his grandchildren, Kimberly Shields (Jonathan) of Bangor, ME, Rebecca McLean (Ian) of Smithfield, RI, Nathan McNear (Lindsey) of Monmouth, ME and Kelly McNear (Herbert Watson) of Norridgewock, ME; and his great grandchildren, Silas, Josie Shields, Dylan, Paige McLean, Herbert Watson II, Matthew Beaulieu and Kyliee Mae McNear.
