He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifton Simmons (Keek) and Ernestine Simmons (Tena) of Friendship; his parents-in-law, Ralph and Mae Abbott of Boothbay Harbor; and his brother Venson Simmons of Friendship.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Simmons of Friendship; his sons, Darren Simmons (Susan Simmons) of Friendship, Gorden Jr. (Jenny) and Pease of Union; his brothers, Theodore Simmons of Friendship and Douglas Simmons (Sheryl Simmons); his granddaughters, Danika Simmons of Rockland and Kristen Simmons of Friendship; and his great grandchildren, Charlotte and Everett Stanton of Rockland. He is also survived by nieces, and nephews.
