He was predeceased by: his father William R. Rice Sr.; his stepmother Alameda Rice (Mallott); his mother Frances Rice Smith (Peasley); his stepfather Donald Smith; his son William R. Mellis; and his stepbrother Michael Mallott.
He is survived by: his wife Marilyn Rice (Garrard); his children, Matthew Rice, Diane Phinney, Karen Alley, Liberty Gawthorne and Frankie James; and his stepsister Kathleen Haas. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.
