Brian Hartman wrote a sympathy message

“I got to met Michael at MDIBL SURF. In one of our retreats I was trying to get a campfire going for smores, and the fire wasn’t really catching on at the pace I wanted. Michael jumped in with this big flap of plastic and made a huge gust of wind that fed the flames and got the campfire radiating with heat! I’m heartbroken to hear of his passing; yet grateful to have shared laugher and fun obscure ideas with him at the dinning table. he was bright and imaginative young man.”

Timothy Breton wrote a sympathy message

“I was Michael's professor in several biology classes and his research supervisor at UMF. Michael was always an outstanding student and a real talent in the laboratory. He had such a bright mind and was always willing to work. He even gave up his position this year so that a new student had an opportunity to learn. I can't say enough things about how nice it was to work with him, and it so sad to see such a person leave so early.”

Andrew Barton wrote a sympathy message

“I was Michael’s academic advisor at UMF. I really liked Michael and always looked forward to our advising sessions. He was so smart! I know that he worked very hard on his academic work, but getting the highest grade in the class just seemed to come naturally for him. Not something he bragged about, but what he expected of himself. As he matured from a first-year student to a senior, Michael shared more and more with me about his life outside UMF and about his goals. He was very easy-going, and”
