He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Ames and Alida L. Ames (Marshall); his wife Catherine "Kit" W. Ames (Vinal); his siblings, Marguerite A. Gilley (Ames) and Charles A. Ames; his parents-in-law, Lester Vinal and Willa Vinal; his siblings-in-law, Margaret Grover and Christopher Vinal; and his former wife Jill Ames (Scribner).
He is survived by: his daughters, Andrea L. Ames (Douglas Harber) of Lamoine and Wendy L. Ames (James Neilson) of Ellsworth; his grandson Nicholas M. Vazquez (Phuong); his siblings-in-law, Jack Gilley of Southwest Harbor and Jeanne; his grandchild Orono; and his siblings-in-law, Larry Vinal (Diane) of Augusta, Cally Bartholomae (Greg) of Jefferson, John Vinal (Lena) of Nobleboro and Heather Vinal of Dudley, MA. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
To carry on his spirit of service and generosity, in lieu of flowers, they request donations made in his name to a charity meaningful to him.
