It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of David Jones (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), who passed away on April 2, 2018, at the age of 73, leaving to mourn family and friends. Leave a sympathy message to the family in the guestbook on this memorial page of David Jones to show support.
After many years of construction, and being out of town, he finally landed his dream job, being 'Poppie" and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved to sail, ski, travel and just be anywhere where his wife Sandy and the family were. He loved happy hour and impromptu parties and working at Sandy's store Something's Fishy. Countless hours were spent on Sunshine out on Casco Bay especially the Centerboard Wednesday night races, the crew fondly called him "Skipper". He loved music and loved to dance to anything from Reggae, to the Rolling Stones and Grateful Dead. He loved to go to concerts with his friends and family and always sang along! David is predeceased by his parents, Richard Roland Jones and Dorothy (Braese) Jones. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sandra Cella Jones, his son Michael Jones and his wife Dianne Digati Jones of South Portland, his daughter Kristin Jones and her husband Michael Callahan of Cape Elizabeth, his brother Stephen Jones and his wife Debra Jones of Glendale, Arizona , sister Joanna Gradillas of Tucson Arizona, his brother-in-law Fred Cella of North Attleboro Massachusetts and sister-in-law Joan Cella of South Portland. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Emma (19) and Max Jones (15), Katherine (13) and Grace Callahan (11). He was also Poppie and Uncle Dave to many nieces and nephews that loved him dearly. He was one in a million, he would do anything for you, he really was a wonderful person that loved life and really lived it. He is forever in our hearts and will make us laugh forever at just the thought of him! As one of his favorites T-shirts said, "He was KEEPAH"! In lieu of flowers, spread a little Sunshine, hug your kids and grandkids. He was the best Poppie ever! Visitation will be held 4:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. A Funeral service will take place on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 3:00 P.M. at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church in Cape Elizabeth.
