He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence O'Brien and Christina O'Brien (Olsson); and his brothers, Gilbert and Bunny O'Brien. He is survived by: his wife Mary; his children, Susan McIver (Roger), Ronnie O'Brien (Cindy), Christina Lynn O'Brien Carpenter, Andrew O'Brien (Bethany Kindiger), Melissa Huntley (Jacob) and Scott Carpenter (Moleigh Walsh); his grandchildren, Corey McIver (Lynn) of Princeton, Christy McIver of Baileyville, Danielle Lefferts (Damon) of China Lake and Matthew O'Brien (Kelli) of Pittston; his great grandchildren, Ryan McIver (Taylor) of Princeton, Shain McIver (Nevaeh) of Princeton, Justin, Cayde Huntley of East Machias, Jack Flanagan, Sophie, Bella Lefferts of China Lake, Landon and Charlotte O'Brien of Pittston; his great great grandchild Everett Shain McIver; his nephew Bobby O'Brien (Bengi) of Calais; his siblings-in-law, Bill Dowling of St. Stephen, NB and Diania Green (Joey) of Grand Manan, NB; and his pet Leo.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, February 5th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Mays Funeral Home (26 Church St, Calais, ME 04619). A celebration of life was held on Thursday, February 6th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
