He was predeceased by: his parents, Arnold Lewis James and Dorothy Winnifred James (Goode); his sister Judy Norko; and his sister-in-law Carolyn James. He is survived by: his wife Marilyn Noreen James; his sons, John Michael James (Nancy) of Princeton and Timothy Steven James (Jennifer) of Calais; his brothers, Jimmy Arnold Jr. James (Patsy) and Tom James (Anne); his brother-in-law Paul Norko; his grandchildren, Andrew James (Ashley), Holly Parsons (Max), Thomas Stanhope (Chandler Gallant), Casey Donovan (Mariah) and Kylie Donovan (Marcus); and his great grandchildren, Griffin and Quincy.
