He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter C. Gray and Margaret Gray (Segar); his wife Evelyn M. Ryder of Ellsworth; his brother Belford; and his grandchildren, Lily and Christopher.

He is survived by: his sons, Carlton Jr. (Paige) of Dudley, NC, Scott of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Stuart (Laura) and Jerry (Laurie) of Brooklin; his friend Elizabeth Hutchins; and his grandson Josh Gray. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Known for his memory of Brooklin history, Carlton donated many photographs and documents to the Brooklin Keeping Society.
